Wooden Coffee Table Plans – Steps in Building Your Own Table

A coffee table or coffee table is often one of the first projects making a rookie carpenter. This is a project that can be simple or complex, but with whom you feel comfortable and learn how to make a coffee table or coffee using excellent coffee table plans:

Steps:

1. Note that a coffee table is about 16 inches to 24 inches (400 mm to 600 mm) high by 24 inches to 48 inches long (600 mm to 1 200 mm) wide. Usually has 4 legs and is used in a living room or lounge.

The parts consist of a table top, legs and skirts (platforms). The legs and top are connected to the foot.

The types of materials and designs used for a coffee table will depend on your skills and the type of tools you have available. Hardwoods such as oak or maple are more difficult to work, while softwoods such as pine or birch are easier to work. Building a coffee table is often the first choice for apprentice carpenter.

Measure and cut the type of wood chosen for the table in length, width and thickness. The treatment process should eliminate any defects and smooth surfaces, preparing for when you go to join.

2. Join the legs to the skirt with a shroud and a pin.

A shroud is a square hole is made in the sides of the legs at a fixed depth so that when you make your ears at the ends of the skirts, dowels fit snugly in the mortise.

The pins are made by removing material from the end of the glide slope until you created in the mortise on the legs and no space between the skirt and the junction of the legs.

3. Adjust the shrouds on the legs and ears on the ends of the skirts. You do not need glue. Make sure all the pieces fit and there are no gaps or looseness in the joints. It is better to know now if there is a problem before you put the glue on the pieces. When you’re ready you can set the foundation for your coffee table.

4. Begin to glue the pieces with the long sides first. Apply glue on the inside of the shroud with a small watering disposable brush along the sides.

5. Insert the pins and grápalas instead. Let the glue dry a bit before placing the pin to the skirt by both parties. Glue the ends of the skirts to the legs the same way as you did with the bracket.

6. Check and make sure the legs are square, measuring from one corner to another. The corners should be the same distance. Adjust the clamps until they are in the correct position. Remember to work with agility because the glue dries quickly.

7. Mount the top. This is often the most difficult part in making a wooden coffee table. Creates the top of a piece of plywood cut to the correct dimensions.

8. It borders the top with a piece of veneer tape with adhesive. This is the easiest way a carpenter beginner has to make a coffee table.

9. Adjust the top edge. Unroll the tape from beginning to end, gives cut to length using a knife. Remove the backing tape and press firmly over the edge.

* Use a hand roller or plate to press firmly on the edge – a bit of tape requires heat and pressure to activate the glue. Repeat on all 4 sides.
* Use a special laminated knife to clean the edge of the tape at the end of the table.

10. Place the top to the base by using “S” hooks designed to hold the table skirt.

* The “S” hooks are inserted into slots cut into the skirt (apron) by using an assembler. The center of the bottom of the table top to the table is placed face down on a flat surface. Insert the “S” hooks into the slots that are attached to the bottom of the table top with screws.

11. Finish the coffee table using several coats of polyurethane after sanding the table as smooth as possible by using sandpaper. Make sure when you are sanding paper each time you use a finer grain, that anger will give softness. Also you can use steel wool “000″ to rub the wood between coats of polyurethane or varnish. Use furniture polish and give it a layer of protection when it has dried completely.
